I left India in 1970 for Nairobi and then Blantyre, Malawi, seeking employment and ended up being employed by The Ruo Estates Ltd, ( prior to Eastern Produce takeover ) as Assistant Manager prior to being Manager at Thornwood Estate, both in Mulanje district.

Leaving Malawi in 1974 ( civil war just over the border!), I spent about 9 years working with private forestry, in both the field and in head office, in Scotland before being recruited by The Tea Research Foundation ( Central Africa ), (aka ‘ TRF ‘), Mulanje, as Assistant Director, deputising for the Director when necessary.

I left the TRF in 1992, moving on to more remunerative enterprises in Malawi.
