Report on Assam Reunion Luncheon 2008 at Eastbourne

This year 89 signed up to attend but only some 85 turned up - contrast 96 last year. Owing to the dwindling attendance it was suggested and agreed that our younger members should be able, in future years, to bring their respective spouses or partners which would serve both to maintain numbers and the continuation of this popular function. This change will operate from 2009.

Reunion 2009
This has been booked for Tuesday 21 April 2009 The usual invitation will be sent out in early January 2009 as reminder of the event.

Announcements

1. Somewhat sadly, Holly Scallon, who so efficiently arranged this luncheon for so many years, is in the District & General Hospital here in Eastbourne. As he was unable to attend the lunch - his first miss in 30 years since inauguration - he asked that his regrets for absence be explained and he also sent his best wishes to all present. He looks forward to being here next year - god and the NHS willing!

2. David Air, our Koi-Hai website organiser, who could not be present, has asked for your help in adding some fond memories to the Koi-Hai website from those who had the good fortune to travel by sea to and fro India. Many will remember the unforgettable and joy-giving antics of Gully Gully men of Port Said who came on board ship to entertain with their magical tricks of producing young chicks and other items from ears etc, especially from children. 3. Scottish Reunion Luncheon - David Kilgour and Gordon Simpson are arranging a lunch at Aberdeen on 15 August later this year. Anyone wishing to follow this up can contact David Kilgour at his address: 28 Corbiehill Grove, Edinburgh EH4 5DU

4. After 7 years as Convenor, Mike Courtney announced that he was handing over the job to Dacre Mogg , who has kindly agreed to accept the task of keeping this enjoyable function going. Members expressed their thanks to the hotel management, its chefs and the courteous staff for a good lunch and the usual well organised function.
