Many Tea Planters in Assam and North East India lived quite an insular existence. Tucked away in the hills they were far away from big cities and a very long way from the United Kingdom. In the old days it was weeks by steam ship to get home.
Many planters visited each other and this was an opportunity to catch up and share ideas.
Other visitors would include Company Officials and perhaps engineers coming to help fix tea machines or generators.
